A herder's ger and grazing herd on the steppe of the Tamir valley, Arkhangai
Traceable Mongolian cashmere · nooluur.mn

Every fibre has a soum, a family and a name.

A closed-loop chain from the Mongolian steppe to the world’s luxury houses. No intermediaries in between — value returns to the herder, and provenance becomes proof.

The market today

Cashmere suffers from two structural failures: opacity, and a herder who keeps almost nothing.

Fibre leaves the steppe through layers of local middlemen, opaque auctions in Ulaanbaatar and large plants that blend qualities together. What arrives is a product without real traceability — the herder receives a fraction of its value, and luxury houses pay for a sustainability story that is rarely verifiable.

Nooluur is not an incremental fix. It replaces that chain with a closed loop that connects the soum directly to the runway — and turns provenance into the asset.

The conventional chain
  1. HerderSells to whoever comes to the ger
  2. Local middlemenSeveral layers, each taking a margin
  3. Opaque auctionsUlaanbaatar — origin no longer recorded

Value erodes at every step. Provenance is lost at the blend.

One accountable line. The record travels with the fibre.
I — Radical transparency

A digital passport for every lot, from the first collection point in the soum.

Haute couture no longer accepts generic sustainability certificates. Each lot of hand-combed nooluur can be traced to the exact herding family and region — including herd genetics such as Zalaa and grades such as Khaan Shirkhegt. Built to meet EU due-diligence requirements. Transparency becomes the proof of luxury.

First collection point

The passport opens where the fibre is handed over — in the soum, weighed and sealed at the point of collection, before it ever meets another lot.

II — Sovereign equity & community stewardship

Not philanthropy.
A partnership with the people of the steppe.

The margin that used to disappear between the soum and Ulaanbaatar now stays with the malchin — the herder.

We work with herding families directly, under a bilateral commitment that goes well beyond buying fibre. Four lines of support, delivered at the ger, all year — not only at combing season.

For the herder, it means a better price and a stronger herd. For your house, it means something no cooperative can offer: a long-term, exclusive supply from families who choose to work with us.

Fair, superior price

Local brokers’ margins are removed, and that value is transferred to the herder who produced the fibre.

Animal health & veterinary care

Regular herd-care programmes for animal welfare — and for the best possible fleece before combing season.

Livestock registry & tagging

Digital tagging and registration of every animal: easier herd management for the family, stronger sanitary control for all.

Infrastructure at the ger

Connectivity, energy and direct logistics support where the families live and work.

III — Purity & mastery

An impeccable ethical story collapses if the yarn fails.

Luxury punishes technical failure. So we hold moral purity at origin and industrial perfection to the same standard.

Contamination
Zero tolerance — no ordinary wool, no coarse guard hair.
Fineness
Fine micron counts, measured for every lot.
Staple
Long staple length, graded before sale.
